    EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL (ESA) LETTERS

Emotional Support Animals provide emotional assistance to their handlers and may qualify as an ESA as long as the animal does not cause a disturbance or undue hardship for the property owner.

For a person to legally qualify for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA), they must be considered emotionally disabled by a licensed mental health professional. This means the person must meet the criteria for a diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5 (DSM 5).

ESAs: Frequently Asked Questions

  • An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letter is not a certification or registration.

It is a clinical document written by a licensed mental health professional stating that:

    • You have a qualifying mental health condition

    • Your animal provides support related to that condition

    • The support is clinically relevant to your functioning

ESA letters are most commonly used for housing accommodations under the Fair Housing Act (FHA).

  • I do not provide “quick ESA letters.”

I provide comprehensive clinical evaluations to determine whether an ESA letter is appropriate.

    That means:

    • We assess your mental health history and current symptoms

    • We explore how your animal supports your functioning

    • We determine whether clinical criteria are met

If those criteria are met, I can provide documentation.

If they are not, I will be honest about that.

Letters are not guaranteed. Ethical care is.

  • Who This Is For

This may be a good fit if:

    • You are experiencing anxiety, burnout, trauma-related symptoms, or emotional overwhelm

    • Your animal meaningfully supports your ability to function day-to-day

    • You want a legitimate, clinically sound evaluation

    • You are open to a process, not just a transaction

  • Step 1: Initial Appointment

We meet for a clinical evaluation (virtual).
This is not a formality—it is an actual assessment.

    Step 2: Clinical Determination

I determine whether an ESA letter is clinically appropriate based on:

    • Diagnostic considerations

    • Functional impact

    • Ethical and legal standards

    Step 3: Documentation (If Appropriate)

If criteria are met, you will receive:

    • A professionally written ESA letter

    • Documentation aligned with current guidelines

  • Fees

    • ESA / Clinical Evaluation: $150 for 45-60 minute session

    • Documentation: Three pages are included with the appointment. If further docuentation is needed, it is billed in 15-minute increments at $150/hour.

Payment is due at the time of service.
